The Residents - Talking Light: Bimbo's

The story of the Talking Light piece is basically that of an older man who questions, not only decisions he made as a teenager, but also if the events he remembers from that time happened at all. "A dead infant clutching a ring with an inscription the teenager cannot read" is the stuff of dreams. The following stories in the show may or may not shed light on the inscription. Questions remain unanswered. The Residents study death, not as a horrific end, but as the ultimate question that we all ask while wondering if any of it is even real. Sonaten

The Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach are considered “the Himalayas of violinists". Yehudi Menuhin first recorded the complete works mid-1930s. The film, focuses on the Sonatas. It is a true dialogue between the recording of Yehudi Menuhin and Claire Bourdet, playing them today. The different movements are played in turn until they are merged into an unexpected polyphony. This is a film about music as an image of time.

Guns N’ Roses: Live In New York 1991

Filmed at the legendary Ritz in 1991, this concert was one of three rehearsal “club” dates for the tour that would ultimately divide the band, and it took place at the 1,400-person-or-so-capacity Ritz. Rose tells the crowd he doesn’t like showing up to rehearsals (shocker) so this was his warmup, but he nevertheless delivers an impressive, throat-shredding performance throughout, even after injuring a leg mid-gig. He even sounds like he’s having fun. He does the Cool Hand Luke “failure to communicate” monologue himself in “Civil War,” which also features Slash riffing on Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).”

Tricky & Marta: Ground Control

Tricky, a pioneer of the trip-hop movement, is joined by Marta, a Polish-born singer, for a live performance at Ground Control in Paris in early 2023. The live performance is intercut with an interview with Tricky and Marta, touching on a range of subjects, including Marta’s debut album ‘When It’s Going Wrong’ (which Tricky produced and collaborated on).

Pillbox

Pillbox tells the story of a couple who are forced to part when the man heads overseas to war. The opening sequence boasts the simple black-and-white aesthetic of early cinema – complete with title cards – but after a barrage of harrowing newsreel footage, the wounded soldier finds himself in a psychedelic fantasyland where he parties with a bejeweled king and his subjects. But after insulting the king, the soldier is blinded, banished and forced to wander through a surreal landscape as he searches for redemption and tries to find his way home.

Alternating commentary on factual images of the scene (concerts, nightclubs, specialty shops, etc.) with interviews with goths, including Olivier, leader of the band ROSA CRUX, Patrick Eudeline, rock journalist, François Darmigny, fashion photographer, and the president of Miviludes, the Interministerial Mission for Vigilance and Combating Sectarian Aberrations.
