Infamous Mexican bandit Pancho López recognizes Gilbert Jones as the man who once saved his life; therefore, when Jones is in danger of losing his ranch for default of mortgage payment, López determines to help him. At the same time, Morgan Pell, intending to cheat Jones out of his potentially oil-rich property, offers him a sum of money, which Jones conditionally accepts.
Barry Craven meets former sweetheart Gillian Locke, who is visiting India with her father. Craven's love for Gillian is revived, but he already has a wife, Lolaire, a native. In a jealous rage, Lolaire kills herself, freeing Craven, who returns to England and marries Gillian. His Indian servant, Kunwar Singh, casts a spell on Craven, causing him to leave Gillian and to go into the Algerian desert. Café singer Florence Burgess, a café singer secretly supports her lame sister Frances, one day she catches the eye of theatrical manager Oscar Morse, who offers her an engagement. However, when they meet, he makes inappropriate advances, which Florence rejects. Out of work after her café closes, Florence tricks Morse by getting him drunk and having him sign a substitute contract, starring her in a show called "The Green Goddess." Now successful and using the stage name Flo Burke she takes a rest at a country hotel. She meets and falls in love with Fenton, a minister whose earlier efforts led to the closure of her old café. Unaware of her true identity, Fenton tells her about his missionary work. Florence keeps her identity secret, saying she is the sister of Flo Burke, and falls in love with him. After hearing Fenton preach, Florence decides to leave the stage, but Morse demands a large forfeit, effectively binding her to her theatrical contract.

Gamblers Dave Hume and Ed Felton are rivals for the love of Babe Lennox, a chorus girl. Hume informs on Felton, and though the latter is arrested he is released on bail, and Talbot, the attorney, warns Hume to stay clear of him. Hume, who is in ill health, determines to commit suicide, making it appear that Felton killed him; and (concealing a record of his plans on a small statuette) he makes a wager with Felton that he can do so.
German silent film
Produced by small-scale firm Peerless, this silent melodrama told the ancient story of the girl whose refusal to "put out" loses her a chance for stage prominence.
