Paul Weller: BBC Four Sessions

In an exclusive BBC4 session filmed at BBC Television Centre, Paul Weller performs numbers from his album 22 Dreams, solo hits including From the Floorboards Up and Peacock Suit, and a couple of classics from The Jam's back catalogue. Weller performs with his regular five-piece band and is joined on some numbers by the Wired Strings and a brass section. He also has special guests, including Oasis guitarist Gem Archer on Echoes Round the Sun, fiddle player Eliza Carthy on Wild Wood and Where'er You Go and Blur guitarist Graham Coxon on Black River.

They are two untamed, wild, asocial beings, fighting for their freedom.

Where's the Respect?

"Where’s the Respect?" is a track written, composed, and produced by Ali Boubacar Bonkano, featuring vocals by Bima Bama. Delivered as a raw, personal narrative from Bama’s perspective, the lyrics confront the persistent jealousy and scrutiny Bonkano faces within the fashion industry. By centering the recurring question, "Where's the respect?", the track critiques a competitive environment while asserting Bonkano’s dominance and refusal to be derailed. Ultimately, the song serves as a defiant declaration of focus, confirming that he will continue to advance his craft and legacy, indifferent to the negative opinions and insecurities of those waiting for his downfall.

The Singing Sheikh

Sheikh Imam Mohammad Ahmad Eissa, born 1918, is famous throughout the Arab world for his folk songs indicting the ruling classes. Considered the voice of the oppressed, he is banned from state television and radio, and has been imprisoned numerous times, including in 1974 for the occasion of President Nixon’s visit. With scenes of Egyptian street life set to his often caustic musical criticisms of his native Egypt’s upper classes, the Sheikh’s message is that “If a beautiful thing is suppressed today, it will rise tomorrow.”
