Years of Macau

"Years of Macau" is an anthology film consisting of nine short films set in different years and locations in Macau. They include "Go Back Home", "REC-Last Days", "Sparkling Mind", "The Last Show", "Till the End of World", "The First Cigarette", "A Moment", "Dirty Laundry" and "Summer". All nine directors are from Macau, most of whom were born and raised here. The stories of each film share what the directors feel about Macau using the language of cinema to convey their love for the city.

Return of the Cuckoo

In the year 2525, Macao is the only surviving metropolis in the world. After the final wars our world is controlled by corrupt companies. Breeding children is illegal and are forced to move off World. To survive the earth, some people are forced to remain there and cloning has started to keep the planet alive. However a resistance group are against the this new brutal law and go against the company. Sebastian is working for the company and hunt down the resistance, however when he meet his own clone he relies he has been replaced and go against the company.

O Regresso

"O Regresso" is a documentary featuring renowned Portuguese actor Ruy de Carvalho as he returns to Macau after a 10-year absence. Directed to mark the 10th anniversary of his visit, the film captures Ruy de Carvalho revisiting key locations across the city, reflecting on the cultural and social transformations that Macau underwent in the lead-up to its handover from Portuguese to Chinese administration in 1999. Ferry to Hong Kong

Mark Conrad, a habitual drunk and troublemaker with a shady past, is expelled by Hong Kong police after one too many bar fights. He's sent to Macao on the Fa Tsan, a ferry owned by Captain Hart. Conrad's papers are out of order and Macao refuses him entry. Unable to go ashore, Conrad is a permanent passenger on the ferry with Hart, who detests him. It's all one long, lazy voyage for Conrad until one fateful trip when an encounter with a typhoon and pirates forces Conrad to choose between an aimless drifter's life and becoming a man again.

The Chair

After inheriting his father's estate, Cheung Ka-bo leads a life of debauchery after getting know Blackie Yuen, who profits at others' expense, and Yee-Wah, who working at a night club. As the family wealth diminishes, he always squabbles with his wife and finally separates from her. She returns a diamond bracelet, kept by Uncle Chan, to her mother-in-law. Bo's mother hides the bracelet in a chair. Later, Wah resides at Bo's home. To flatter Wah, Bo wants to get the bracelet by any means from his mother and give it to Wah. Later, Bo's mother falls ill. In the hospital, she tells Bo of the bracelet's whereabouts but the chair has already been sold to Uncle Chan by Wah. Bo, Wah and Yuen stealthily enter Chan's home to get the chair, but have a big fight when they try to take the bracelet. Knowing that Bo has huge debts, Wah intends to leave him after getting the bracelet. Wah exposes her gluttonous self in her pursuit of the treasure. Bo learns his lesson and returns to his wife.

Known nowadays as 'Asia's Las Vegas' for its economical boom and gambling, Macau, a former Portuguese Settlement in China, with a dimension of mere 30km², and a Population of 500 000 citizens, is suffering major social and economical changes. In 2007 it received more than 27000000 tourists, equaling its neighbor Hong-Kong. Miri, a cosmopolitan and smart Macau Chinese girl, returns to Macau after studying abroad. Having been working locally for over 2 months, she decides to take a walk trough the old part of town for the first time since her return. As she walks trough the streets, she hears a unique music. This music leads Miri on a journey where she (re)discovers one of the many stories of these century old streets.
