Robert Randolph is an American musician, a master of the pedal steel guitar, greatly influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan. The US Rolling Stone magazine designated him as one of the 100 best guitarists in the world in 2003. The following year he appeared in the 'Crossroads Guitar Festival' DVD and opened Eric Clapton's World Tour. The latest project by Robert Randolph and The Family Band, 'We Walk This Road', is a celebration of Afro-American music over the last one hundred years and reflects the cultural background of Robert Randolph, who began playing music in church. For the Nice Jazz Festival, his programme includes original compositions and covers (Bob Dylan, Prince, John Lennon and Blind Willie Johnson), all in a festive and celebratory spirit.

A live recording captured on 7th November 2022 at Amsterdam’s 17,000 capacity Ziggo Dome, it places the listener/viewer right at the heart of the stage for the duration of the show as psychotropic visuals explode behind the band as they play a superlative set of songs that features - to use Steven Wilson’s words - “no hits”, where each one is received like an anthem from an alternate universe. Gurtu’s mastery of post-bop jazz has not gone unnoticed. Downbeat magazine named him “best percussionist” in three critic and popularity polls and proclaimed, “musically, the world is his stage”. Joe Zawinul & WDR Big Band - Leverkusener Jazztage

Zawinul is onstage with the WDR Big Band from Germany and a special international rhythm section. The music is a tribute to the pioneering 1970s fusion collective Weather Report, originally with Wayne Shorter on sax, Zawinul on keys, and later Jaco Pastorius on bass (among other personnel). Zawinul and the WDR play "Brown Street" and "Carnavalito." Arranger Vince Mendoza re-imagines this colorful, small-group music for Europe's longest-lived jazz orchestra. And they can play!
