Nueva York: A Musical History of Latin New York

When the film West Side Story was released in 1961, New York's reviled Puerto Rican community gained some visibility and, over time, both in Spanish Harlem and the Bronx, neighborhoods plagued by poverty, drugs and crime, Hispanic identity was reborn and strengthened, thanks to a syncretic and intentionally popular music that eventually conquered the entire city.

Becoming Vera

In Miami, 18-year-old pianist Vera, a foster child aging out of the system, struggles to pursue her passion for Latin Jazz amidst poverty and exploitation. After landing a freelance job painting a music studio, she impresses Hector, the studio owner and music producer, who offers her a chance to compose. However, Hector exploits her talent, stealing her composition for his own gain. Faced with betrayal and self-doubt, Vera almost gives up her dream. But with determination and the support of friends, she finds her voice and takes one final step toward a future in Latin Jazz, proving that anything is possible with resilience and self-belief.

When the inventor of the time machine, Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Steissbein, visits his childhood friend and nursing home director Prof. Gräulich, they spontaneously decide to punish the two incorrigible troublemakers for their inappropriate behavior by sending them back to the bad old days as guinea pigs. The two sly foxes, marked by a dreary and colorless future, decide to use the opportunity of their trip into the past to make the future more joyful and positive again. Through their entirely unselfish persuasion in our present, they hope to bring about a change in humanity's thinking. This should have a favorable influence on their own future in the retirement home.

Leipzig, December 1734: Christmas brings the Bach family together. The first snow has fallen and the children Gottfried and Elisabeth are delighted about the arrival of their older brothers Friedemann and Emanuel. The Thomaskantor has retired to his music room. Anna Magdalena supports her husband, as there are only a few days left and his latest work, the six-part "Christmas Oratorio", must be finished on time. It is awaited with suspicion by the city council and the gentlemen of the consistory, who have long found Bach's waywardness a thorn in their side and fear that, after the premiere of the St. Matthew Passion a few years earlier, the St. Thomas Church will once again be filled with "operatic" music. With the oratorio, Johann Sebastian Bach hopes that he will finally become court composer in Dresden. And, as always, he demands that all members of the family join forces to help him. But differences of opinion are increasingly delaying the completion of Bach's most famous work.
