The Bugaloos was an American children's television series, produced by brothers Sidney Krofft and Martin Krofft, that aired on NBC on Saturday mornings from 1970 to 1972. The show featured a musical group composed of four British-accented teenagers, who lived in fictional Tranquility Forest. They wore insect-themed outfits with antennae and wings which allowed them to fly, though on occasion, they were shown flying on surfboards. They were constantly beset by the evil machinations of Benita Bizarre, played by comedienne Martha Raye. Bizarre, being untalented and ugly herself, was covetous of the Bugaloos' musical prowess.

Notable achievements of this series included a revival of the insect-community genre well before Antz or A Bug's Life, and voice cameos from well known performers such as James Belushi and Johnny Cash. The regular cast included Hollywood veterans such as Henry Gibson, George Kennedy, Cheech Marin, and Joan Van Ark. The show has also aired on ITV in the United Kingdom and on ABC in Australia.

The Penguins of Madagascar is an American CGI animated television series airing on Nickelodeon. McGrath, who is also the co-creator of the film characters, has said that the series takes place "not specifically before or after the movie, I just wanted them all back at the zoo.
